TEXAS CITY, TX – People can get photographs, letters, documents and personal pieces of local
history digitized for free at the first-ever Galveston County History Round-Up on Saturday, Nov. 8
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Texas City Museum (409 6th Street N.).
Community members are encouraged to bring these items that reflect Galveston County’s shared
past. During the event, volunteers will digitize the materials on-site, allowing participants to
preserve their family or community history while keeping their original items.
A copy of each digital file will be included in a collaborative online exhibit celebrating the people,
places, and stories that shaped Galveston County. This new digital collection will be jointly
preserved by the Archives and Museums of Galveston County, ensuring these memories remain
accessible to future generations.
“This is a wonderful way for residents to play a part in preserving our shared history,” said Theresa
Mayfield, Local History Librarian at Moore Memorial Public Library. “Every photo, every letter, every
keepsake helps tell the story of who we are as a community, in every town here in Galveston
County.”
Collection experts from Moore Memorial Public Library and other organizations in the region will be
on-hand to share tips about how to care for and preserve the items, and all guests will leave with a
flash drive with their digitized copies.
Guests are also invited to bring family members along to create a short, interactive family oral
history. In addition, all participants who bring items for digitization will be entered into a raffle
featuring themed prizes, such as Creating a Family Memory Book, Family Photo Shuffle, and
Quality Time with Family.
The Galveston County History Round-Up event was created with assistance from the Galveston
County Museum, Galveston County Historical Commission, Moore Memorial Public Library, the
Rosenberg Library, The Texas City Museum, League City Historical Society, College of the
Mainland, Dickinson Public Library, and Helen Hall Library.
The Galveston County History Round-Up is free, but registration is required. To sign up and/or learn
