TO SAY THE sports schedule for the first week of the year isn’t busy would be an
exaggeration of sorts…
TODAY, WEDNESDAY: The Rockets will have the spotlight to themselves as they
visit the Magic beginning at 6:00pm. It’s a brief roadie, one that AT&T Sportsnet
Southwest will have live starting with the pregame show at 5:30pm.
TOMORROW, THURSDAY: Area high school soccer teams get their first week
of regular season underway, with a host of them involved in tournament play
through Saturday. The boys teams of Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Springs
and Galveston Ball will be at the Katy ISD Showcase, while Clear Falls is at the
Pasadena/Pearland Varsity Soccer Tournament. Among the girls teams in action,
Clear Brook is at the Humble ISD Tournament, while Friendswood participates in
the Aggieland Classic in College Station.
The Rockets welcome the defending champion Warriors in a game that will be
televised nationally on TNT beginning at 7:00. It marks the second time the two
Western Conference powerhouses collide this season as Houston opened the
regular season with a 122-121 win at Golden State on October 17. The Warriors
will be at full strength as guard Steph Curry returned to the lineup last week after
missing much of last month with an ankle injury.
FRIDAY: A huge slate of district boys and girls basketball is on tap. District 24-6A
play resumes with Alvin at Clear Creek starting at 1:00pm, while Clear Falls at
Clear Lake and state-ranked Dickinson at Clear Springs tips off at 7:00pm. Clear
Brook is at Friendswood starting at 7:30pm. In District 23-5A, Galveston Ball at
Fort Bend Marshall, Santa Fe at Shadow Creek and Manvel at Texas City each
start at 7:00pm. State-ranked La Marque visits Houston Harmony in District 24-3A
action with tip-off scheduled for 7:30pm.
Girls play in District 24-6A has Friendswood at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at
Alvin and Clear Lake at Clear Falls starting at 5:00pm, while Clear Springs visits
Dickinson at 6:00pm. The 23-5A girls slate will have Fort Bend Marshall at
Galveston Ball, Shadow Creek at Santa Fe and Texas City at Manvel each starting
at 1:00pm. La Marque is at Houston Harmony at 6:15pm as part of the day’s
play in District 24-3A.
Texas City’s boys soccer team will be at Baytown Lee at 7:00pm, while the Texas
City girls will host LaPorte at 7:00pm.
SATURDAY: The Rockets begin a stretch that will see them four of their next five
on the road starting at 7:00pm against the Pistons. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will
begin its coverage with the pregame show starting at 6:30pm.
