TEXAS CITY TALK

Editor’s Note: Texas is full of characters and on occasion, it seems like most of
them end up in Texas City.  This series relates short stories from or about Texas
City natives and transplants; some with a sideways smile, some with a touch of
wisdom when you would least expect it.  If you have one you would like to share,
just send it to: info@the postnewspaper.net.  Our first story comes from Daniel Day who spent much of his adult life as a Operator at the plants, overseeing the work of well over 300 workers at a time.  “I had this one old boy used to work for
me – kinda quiet; didn’t say much but a good worker. After about four years of
working with him, one day I had the inclination to ask him how a guy like him ended up married.  So I said. ‘Bill, how did you meet you wife?’ He told me like this.  I used to go fishing a lot and I’d catch me a mess of fish and I’d take most of ‘em over to my Aunts house.  One day when I stopped by there was this pretty girl there helping my Aunt clean her house. I noticed her. And the next time I went by there was that pretty girl again.  So I said to her, ‘Would you like to go out sometime?’ She said no………………..But her sister was there and she popped up and said “I’ll go!” So I married that pretty girl’s sister.  “That’s what Bill told me – said it was a true story, so I guess it was. “
