After reading a press release about an annual charity golf tournament held by a local organization—Samaritan Women At The Well—I knew I had to visit the organization to gain an idea of the services they offer to the Galveston County community. I had a chance to sit down with Veronica Branch, Executive Program Coordinator at Samaritan Women At The Well, to talk to her about the
organization.  Samaritan Women At The Well is a faith-based organization
with its main objective being to help people who are in crisis situations. “We serve men, women and children,” Branch told me. The organization, which was founded in 2003, helps people who have suffered through a variety of situations including: domestic violence, sex trafficking, substance abuse, prison and much more.  When an individual finds themselves in a situation where they feel they need the help of Samaritan Women At The Well, Branch told me that the person can either come into the office or contact them via their office line—409-948-2288. “Our office line is available 24/7 and there will always be someone to answer your questions and provide any assistance that you may need,” Branch told me. Once the individual has managed to get in contact
with Samaritan Women At The Well, their situation will be assessed and a discussion will take place on the next steps.  Most of the individuals who require assistance from Samaritan Women At The Well are placed in one of the
organizations’ homes. “We have three homes in the Texas City area that individuals can be placed into,” said Branch. Along with providing this shelter, the organization also provides food, clothing and assistance in finding a job. Furthermore, Samaritan Women At The Well also provides counseling, case management and mandatory classes that are designed to help the individuals through their situation.  According to the organization’s website, the people being
helped are able to reside in the house for up to one year. After a year, they are then given the option to move to a subsidized apartment complex. “When they are residing in the apartment, we require that they have a job and are able to pay their light bill,” Branch told me. This subsidized apartment is provided for 18 months, at which point the person is provided assistance in finding permanent housing. “However, our doors are always open to provide assistance,” Branch told me. So, even once a person has reached a stage where they are in a permanent housing situation, they can always go back to the office to ask for help.  Branch told me that the organization holds many events, such as garage sales, throughout the year. But their biggest event—which has been taking place for the past five years—is their Annual Charity Golf Tournament.  The tournament this year will take place at the Moody Gardens Golf Course on Thursday April 19th, beginning
at 1:00pm, with a breakfast beforehand. “100 percent of the proceeds earned from the tournament will go towards the organization,” Branch told me. She also mentioned that if you are interested in participating in the tournament
or in being a sponsor you can go into the office at 3206 13th Avenue North in Texas City and make your payment. Branch also said that, if you want to make a donation but do not want to play, you have that option as well.  Samaritan Women At The Well helps between 300 and 400 people each year. They are a very instrumental and important organization for the people of this community and the entire Galveston County.  Branch told me that they will help anyone who requires assistance, as long as that person is willing to “help us help you.” For more information on Samaritan Women At The Well, the services it offers and it’s
