REPEATING: SANTA FE CAPTURES CONSECUTIVE 23-5A BOYS GOLF TITLE

A DOMINATING team carried the Santa Fe High School boys golf team to a second
straight District 23-5A championship during the two-day tournament in Baytown. The
Indians finished with a team score of 653, easily besting the 754 of second place
Shadow Creek.
The victory moved Santa Fe into the Region III meet, which will be held next
Wednesday and Thursday at The Gulf Club at La Torretta in Montgomery.
Galveston Ball finished third in the team standings with a score of 756 while Texas
City placed fifth with a team score of 851.
Bailey Link had the best score among the Indians as his total of 158 placed him
second behind district champion Vishnu Sadagopan of Shadow Creek. Santa Fe’s
Jared Brown (161) and Eric Grady (168) placed fourth and fifth while Todd Penick
(170) and Damon Rabon (173) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Texas City’s Nate Phillips, who finished sixth with a score of 169, also qualified for a
trip to the regional round.
Sadagopan, Link, Brown and Grady were each named to the first team all-district
team along with Fort Bend Elkins’ Henry Pavorachit. Brooks, Penick and Rabon were
joined on the second team with Galveston Ball’s Bailey Premileli and Shadow Creek’s
Khail Baltrip.
Ball’s Colin Davidson, Micah Hanning and Hanson Root were selected as honorable
mention along with Damon Fernandez of Manvel and Gabriel Rivera of Galena Park.
