FISHING FORECAST: It’s a trout word after all
THE FIRST FULL week of May brings a taste of warmer weather (humidity included),
which means good news for local anglers. There’s not an area where
trout isn’t running but those looking for redfish should hit Matagorda Bay. The
upcoming week should also be a tune up of sorts as the CCA Texas STAR Tournament
edges closer to its Memorial Day start.
BOLIVAR: Trout are good on the south shoreline on Bass Assassins, Trout Killers
and Sand Eels. Trout, black drum, sand trout and redfish are good at Rollover
Pass on live bait.
TRINITY BAY: Redfish are good on live bait around the reefs. Trout are fair
around the wells
EAST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are good for waders on the south shoreline on
topwaters and plastics. Whiting and sand trout are good on the edge of the Intracoastal
on fresh shrimp.
WEST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are fair to good for drifters on live bait over reefs
and under birds. Waders have taken good trout on topwaters in the afternoon.
Sheepshead, redfish and black drum are good at the jetty on shrimp and crabs.
TEXAS CITY: Trout are fair to good on April Fool’s Reef on live shrimp and
croakers. A few fish are showing in the channel on croakers, but high winds have
limited access to deep water.
FREEPORT: Trout are fair to good at San Luis Pass on shrimp and MirrOlures
when the wind allows. Sand trout and sheepshead are good on live shrimp on the
reefs in Christmas Bay.
EAST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are fair to good for drifters on live shrimp over
humps and scattered shell. Redfish are fair to good on the edge of the Intracoastal
on crabs and mullet.
WEST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are good on sand and grass humps on soft
plastics and topwaters. Redfish are good on topwaters and live shrimp in Oyster
Lake.
