BOTH THE Texans and Cowboys have nationally-televised games to
spotlight their new additions to their respective receiving corps. The first
week of November opens with as many as four area high school volleyball
teams in action, the first Tuesday of girls’ basketball regular season
action along with the Rockets continuing an extensive road trip in hopes
of breaking out an early season skid.
SUNDAY: Sparked by both a five-game win streak and the addition of
former All-Pro receiver Demaryius Thomas, the Texans visit the Broncos
— Thomas’ not-so-old-team — at 3:05pm. Denver traded Thomas
to Houston on Tuesday, giving quarterback Deshaun Watson a quality
replacement for injured Will Fuller, who is out for the rest of the season
with a torn ACL. The Texans have not had much success against the
Broncos, losing four of the previous six games between the franchises,
losing the last two games by a combined 64-22 margin. KHOU11 will
have the game live.
MONDAY: One girls’ basketball game is on the schedule as Friendswood
visits Dobie at 7:30pm.
Indiana is the next step in Houston’s five-game road trip as they face
the Pacers at 6:00pm. The game is part of a stretch where the Rockets
will play just one home game through mid-November. AT&T Sportsnet
Southwest will have the game live starting with the pregame show at
5:30pm.
The Cowboys will get their first opportunity to unveil their new receiver
when they host the Titans at 7:15pm (ESPN). Dallas acquired wideout
Amari Cooper from Oakland last week for a future first-round as they
looked to upgrade a lagging passing game that is 29th in yardage. This
will mark the 15th time the Cowboys and the team once known as the
Houston Oilers have faced off with Dallas holding an 8-6 series lead.
The Cowboys won the last meeting, a 2 6-10 decision in 2014.
TUESDAY: Both Friendswood and Santa Fe punched their tickets to the
5A, Region III volleyball quarterfinals with victories on Thursday. Each
will play either Monday or Tuesday, with the Mustangs awaiting the winners
of Barbers Hill and Manvel while the Indians will face the winners of
the match between Richmond Foster and Port Neches-Groves.
Two other area teams looked to join Friendswood and Santa Fe with
victories in matches played on Friday night. Clear Springs played Pasadena
Memorial at Deer Park High School while Clear Falls took on Deer
Park at Pasadena’s Phillips Fieldhouse.
The girls’ high school basketball schedule starts with Clear Falls at Cy
Springs beginning at 5:30pm. Aldine at Clear Brook, Galveston Ball at
Clear Lake, Clear Creek at Memorial, CHSA HomeSchool at Santa Fe,
state-ranked Clear Springs at Shadow Creek, Hitchcock at Texas City
and Dickinson at Westbury each begin at 7:00pm.
