AREA SPORTS FANS are going to love this Friday… WEDNESDAY: Texas City High School’s football team will hold its annual banquet at the Doyle Convention Center beginning at 6:00pm. The high school wrestling schedule will have Bay Area Christian at Clear Creek, Kingwood Park at Clear Falls and Clear Brook at Summer Creek. Each meet will begin at 5:00pm. With the track and field regular season looming, Clear Brook’s girls will take part in a practice meet at host Pasadena Dobie that will also include South Houston. THURSDAY: Texas City will host a powerlifting meet at Blocker Junior High School that will also include Dickinson, Galveston Ball and Santa Fe among the schools participating in the event that will start at 3:00pm. Hitchcock’s girls’ golf team will be at The Wilderness Golf Course in Lake Jackson as part of a two-day meet. FRIDAY: Take a deep breath, because this is going to be a busy day. The final Friday of the girls’ basketball regular season starts with Hitchcock at East Bernard at 6:15pm, followed by Texas City at Crosby, Friendswood at Galveston Ball and Brazosport at La Marque beginning at 6:30pm. Alvin at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Clear Falls, Clear Lake at Clear Springs and Goose Creek Memorial at Santa Fe each start at 7:00pm. In boys’ basketball, Clear Brook at Alvin, Clear Falls at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Clear Lake, Galveston Ball at Friendswood, Santa Fe at Goose Creek Memorial and Crosby at Texas City are 7:00pm starts, while state-ranked La Marque at Brazosport and Hitchcock at East Bernard begin at 7:30pm. The boys’ soccer schedule will have Alvin at Clear Creek, Clear Brook at Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Galena Park, Friendswood at Santa Fe and Baytown Lee at Texas City will each begin their matches at 7:30pm. Each of the six girls’ soccer matches are 7:30pm starts, with Texas City at Baytown Lee, Clear Springs at Clear Brook, Alvin at Clear Creek, Dickinson at Clear Falls, Santa Fe at Friendswood and Galena Park at Galveston Ball. Clear Brook, Clear Springs, Santa Fe and Texas City will be among the tennis teams represented at the Franklin/Kramer Tournament in Pasadena, while Clear Creek’s tennis team heads out to take part in the San Antonio Varsity Tournament. The next step toward the state swimming and diving championships will be held as those who qualified for the 5A regionals will be at the Don Cook Natatorium in Sugar Land, while the 6A qualifiers will be at the Pearland Natatorium. A host of softball scrimmages are on the docket, as Friendswood hosts a triscrimmage with Dobie and Manvel starting at 4:00pm. La Marque at Spring Dekaney begins at 5:00pm, while Galveston Ball at Sweeney starts at 6:30pm. Santa Fe heads to Alvin for a 7:00pm scrimmage. Clear Lake will host a girls’ track and field practice meet that will have fellow CCISD schools Clear Creek and Clear Falls also involved. And if there wasn’t enough on the schedule, the Rockets head out west to meet the Nuggets in a nationally televised game on ESPN that starts at 9:00pm. The game between Western Conference heavy hitters will also be aired on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest, with the pregame show starting at 8:30pm. SATURDAY: Among the area baseball teams scrimmaging will be Clear Brook, which will host Dobie for an 11:00am tune-up. Clear Creek will have its annual 50 inning game at Mallory Field, while Cypress Christian visits Santa Fe for a 1:00pm scrimmage. In softball, Dickinson and George Ranch will be at Texas City for a tri-scrimmage at 9:00pm, while Nederland at Clear Creek and Danbury at Santa Fe each start their scrimmages at 1:00pm. The Rockets conclude a brief two-game road swing with a visit to the Jazz at 8:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its pregame show at 7:30pm.L
