Moore Memorial Library is a place of lifelong learning, inspiration, and also entertainment.  They have an excellent young adult fiction section, non-fiction resources, databases, and audiovisual materials. They want young adults to be involved in the library so they have a Teen Advisory Board. It is for anyone 12-18 that wants to earn leadership hours and make the library a better place.

The Library also offers these valuable student services to young adults.

Reference Assistance: Students needing assistance in locating research materials such as newspaper articles, biographies and more can get assistance at the reference desk.

Computer Workstations: Moore Library has computer workstations to accommodate people of all ages. Children 11 and under must use computers in the children’s department by showing a photo ID or library card. Youth ages 12+ can use the teen computers in the reference department by showing a photo ID or library card.

The Library loves their VolunTeens. The library is looking for teens (ages 13 – 18) to extend a helping hand to patrons. Help keep the library organized, help staff prepare for programs, and much more! The teen program will now run year-round! Any teen age 13-18 is eligible to apply. Help your community and yourselves. Earn volunteer service credit for college applications, service organizations, or to add to your resume. You can pick up an application at the Reference Desk during business hours.

Did you know the world’s oldest continually running library in the world is at the St. Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai, Egypt? It was built in the middle of the 6th century and houses the second largest collection of religious material in the world (after the Vatican). However, it is not accessible to the public, only by monks and invited scholars.  The Library of Paris combined with the National Library of France, is the oldest continually running public library service, dating back to 1368 when it was housed at the Louvre. It has moved several times over the past 700 years, into newer and larger accommodation.

The largest library in the world is The Library of Congress, with more than 158 million items on approximately 838 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 36 million books and other print materials, 3.5 million recordings, 13.7 million photographs, 5.5 million maps, 6.7 million pieces of sheet music and 69 million manuscripts.

“Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life. Libraries change lives for the better.”
