Your Local Library News

By: Bridget Buffa

Moore Memorial Library offers a wealth of information for people interested in the History of Texas City much, much more.  They now have a new Local History Librarian, Theresa Mayfield to assist you with all your interest.

Theresa is from Albany, NY and has lived in Tucson, Arizona and Heidelberg Germany! Theresa came to Texas by way of her husband’s job. (He is a professor at the University of Houston Clear Lake.) However, Theresa came to Texas City because, in her words, “I saw this amazing job posting for a Local History Librarian and I was hooked!”

Theresa hopes to bring a fresh perspective to her new role. She is a graduate of the University of North Texas‘s Master of Library Science program and holds a certificate in Digital Curation and Data Management. She also brings with her experience from her most recent internship with Arte Público Press’s Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage, where she created online digital collections and exhibits using Omeka (a web-publishing platform for libraries and museums).

Theresa has a passion and interest in local history and archives work that is sure to play a critical role in the library’s digitization efforts in the coming year.
