Galveston County Recovers

Volunteers are simply not “limelight” people. They do not seek attention. They do not desire recognition. In fact, they are the ones who shy away from all that. They are the ones who keep their heads down, plowing through the mountain of need that greets them as they start each day. They are humble by nature, grateful mostly, for the opportunity to serve. They celebrate the little victories of those they help and  revel in the healing of those they help. They are the silent heroes. So we want to honor them…not with parades or fireworks, plaques or trophies.

A local pastor compared a group who has come down from their homes to help Galveston recover from Harvey and the last time they were here , she compared them to a spoon. We thought that a fitting description for what a volunteer does so the first recipients of the “Spoons Full of Love” award is Saint Philip’s Disaster Recovery Team in gratitude for their tireless work pulling Harvey victims out of the soup and into recovery. Thank you.
