VOLLEYBALL SCRIMMAGES GET 2019-20 HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS UNDERWAY

AUGUST HAS FINALLY arrived, and that means high school athletics are back. Volleyball practices start on Thursday and scrimmages will take place throughout Saturday leading into the regular season openers on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Astros return home for a weekend series and the Dynamo continue their push for an MLS playoff bid.
WEDNESDAY: Rookie Jose Urquidy (1-0, 4.26 ERA) takes the mound for the
Astros in the middle game of the series against the Indians beginning at 6:10pm. Cleveland will counter with Adam Plutko (3-2, 4.83 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest begins coverage with the pregame show at 5:30pm; the game can also be seen on the ESPN+ package.
THURSDAY: The 2019-20 high school athletic season officially begins with the first day of volleyball practice throughout the state. Everyone starts 0-0 as the road to Garland and the state championships November 20-23.
Red-hot Gerrit Cole (12-5) looks for his ninth straight win in the series finale at the Indians. Cole has not lost since May 22 and is currently in a stretch where he has struck out at least nine batters in five of his last six starts. Zach Plesac (5-3, 3.10 ERA) will get the starting nod for the Indians when the game begins at 6:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 5:30pm; the game will also be televised on MLB Network.
FRIDAY: The Astros return to Minute Maid Park to open a weekend series
against the Mariners starting at 7:10pm. Wade Miley (9-4, 3.06 ERA) gets the
start for Houston while Seattle gives the ball to Yusei Kikuchi (4-7. 5.21 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with its pregame show at 6:30pm. SATURDAY: A huge morning and afternoon of high school volleyball scrimmages starts at 8:30am with Clear Creek hosting Pearland, Katy Taylor, Barbers Hill and Pasadena Memorial. Clear Springs will host a scrimmage beginning at 8:55am with La Marque and Dawson among the schools participating. Clear Falls welcomes Clear Brook, Santa Fe and Friendswood for a scrimmage beginning at 9:00am, the same time that Dickinson takes part in a scrimmage at Baytown Sterling. Galveston Ball will be part of a scrimmage at Terry that will start at 10:00am.
The Astros have not announced who will get the start for them in the middle game of the series against the Mariners, but Seattle is slated to go with Marco Gonzales (12-8, 4.21 ERA) when the teams square off at 6:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest’s pregame show starts at 5:30pm.
The Dynamo return to action when they host the Chicago Fire at BBVA Stadium. KUBE 57 and TeleXitos will have coverage of the match beginning at 7:00pm. The match will also be part of the ESPN+ package.
