BOTH THE TEXANS AND COWBOYS open their 2019 regular seasons with the phrase “put up or shut up” hovering over them. Each team faces a tough opponent to kick off the NFL’s 100th season of play. Meanwhile, the final week of non-district volleyball play gets underway with 10 teams in action on Tuesday night.
Sunday: Gerrit Cole (15-5, 2.81 ERA) gets the nod for the Astros in the series finale against the Mariners at Minute Maid Park beginning at 1:10pm. Seattle counters with rookie Justus Sheffield (0-1, 5.51 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin coverage at 12:30pm with the pregame show.
The Cowboys begin their 60th season of existence with a clash against the longtime rival Giants beginning at 3:25pm. It will be the 114th game of the series, with Dallas holding a 66-45-2 edge while also winning the last four meetings. Fox 26 will have the game live.
Monday: The Astros give the ball to Zack Greinke (14-5, 3.09 ERA) in the opener of a four-game set against the Athletics, who contiune to bid for an American League Wild Card spot. Oakland will go with former Astros starter Mike Fiers (13-3, 3.51 ERA) when AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 7:10pm, shortly after the pregame show that begins at 6:30pm.
A make or break season gets underway for the Texans as they visit the Saints in the opener of a Monday night twin-bill. It is only the fifth time the teams have played, with both teams earning two wins each. Houston won the previous meeting in a 24-6 decision in 2015. Both ESPN and ABC 13 will have the game live beginning at 6:10pm.
Tuesday: All but Hitchcock are in action for the evening’s volleyball slate, beginning with Clear Falls at Tompkins at 5:30pm. Pearland at Clear Creek starts at 6:00pm, followed by La Marque at CE King, George Ranch at Clear Springs, Dickinson at Deer Park, Texas City at Fort Bend Dulles, Clear Brook at Friendswood, Santa Fe at Huffman and Galveston Ball at La Porte each starting at 6:30pm.
Three team tennis contests are also on the slate, with Clear Brook at Clear Falls starting at 3:00pm, Clear Creek at Alvin at 3:30pm and Galveston Ball at Texas City getting underway at 4:00pm.
It will be Wade Miley (13-4, 3.06 ERA) getting his turn in the rotation for the Astros against the Athletics beginning at 7:10pm. Oakland hands the ball to Tanner Roark (9-8, 3.86 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its coverage with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
