Dickinson High School alum Andre Ware was honored during Thursday’s SMU-Houston football game as the school honored Ware on the 30th anniversary of his winning the Heisman Trophy. Ware passed for 4,699 yards and 44 touchdowns during the 1989 season, setting 26 NCAA records in the process. He is also considered a forerunner to today’s crop of African-American quarterbacks both in college and professional football and is currently a color analyst for both the Houston Texans and SEC Network.
