Highschool volleyball playoffs begin

WE CAN LAMENT FOR THE Astros for so long before putting our attention toward the Rockets and Texans. More importantly, state high school volleyball playoff action opens the week, with a host of area schools bidding to play deep into the month for chance to reach the Final Four.

Sunday: The Texans are playing pretty early, as in 8:30am, as they face the Jaguars at London’s famed Wembley Stadium. The game marks the first time the Texans have participated in the NFL’s series of games played in England. NFL Network will have the game live. Fish and chips are optional for viewing.

The Rockets make their only regular season appearance in Miami as they face Houston natives Jimmy Butler and Justise Winslow and the Heat beginning at 5:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game starting with the pregame show at 4:30pm.

Monday: The road to the state high school volleyball title begins at 6:00pm when Clear Creek plays Pearland Dawson in a 6A, Region III bi-district matchup at Pearland High School. Friendswood will play the winner of Friday evening’s 21-5A tiebreaker between Dayton and Vidor at La Porte High School. Santa Fe takes on Port Neches-Groves at Barbers Hill High School at 6:00pm. Both Friendswood and Santa Fe will be in 5A, Region III bi-district matchups.

Clear Falls and Clear Springs will have to wait for the result of Friday’s 23-6A tiebreaker between Pearland and George Ranch before finding out where they will play. The winner of the match will play Clear Falls, while the loser takes on Clear Springs.

Fall league softball continues at Texas City High School’s softball fields. Games begin at 5:00pm and will go through 9:00pm.

The Rockets conclude their first road trip of the season when they visit the Grizzlies beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its coverage starting with the pregame show at 6:30pm.

Monday Night Football puts the Cowboys in the national spotlight as they return from their bye week with a trip against the rival Giants. Kickoff will be at 7:15pm on ESPN.

Tuesday: Clear Brook starts its volleyball run to state when they take on Brazoswood in a 6A. Region III bi-district round match starting at 6:00pm at Santa Fe High School. Texas City meets Nederland in a 5A, Region III bi-district match at Liberty High School beginning at 7:00pm.

Texas City’s girls’ golf team will play the role of host in a met at Bayou Golf Club, starting at 9:00am.

The Stingarees meet Galveston Ball in a swim meet at Doyle Natatorium starting at 5:00pm
