A NEW WEEK ALSO MEANS the start of baseball season. While area high schools begin with somewhat mild temps, the Astros get to bask in the Florida sun as the defending American League champs look to get things rolling.

Monday: Opening day of the high school baseball season gets going with Clear Falls at Santa Fe at 4:30pm, followed by Dickinson at Brenham at 5:00pm. Clear Springs at Brazoswood and Clear Creek at Galveston Ball are both 6:00pm starts while Friendswood at Angleton closes out the schedule at 7:00pm.

There is plenty of golf to start the new week as Clear Creek’s boys’ team is at the Concan Classic, which will be held at Concan County Club. Hitchcock travels to Danbury for the Panthers Invitational at Austin Bayou Country Club while Santa Fe’s girls’ team will be at South Shore Harbour Country Club.

Texas City’s men’s water polo team opens its season when they welcome Clear Creek to Doyle Natatorium for a 5:00pm start.

It’s another roadie for the Astros, who travel to visit the Tigers at 12:05pm in a Spring Training game that will be on the air at KBME 790AM.

The Rockets return home to open a brief homestand by welcoming the Knicks for their only appearance to Toyota Center this season. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 6:30pm with the game starting shortly after 7:00pm.

Tuesday: There is one high school baseball game on the slate as La Marque visits Hitchcock in the opener for both teams. Start time is 6:00pm.

The softball schedule will have Santa Fe at Crosby at 6:00pm. Clear Brook at Galveston Ball, Texas City at Galena Park and Clear Falls at La Porte will each start at 6:30pm.

In boys’ soccer, Clear Creek at Alvin, Clear Brook at Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Dickinson, Friendswood at Santa Fe and Baytown Lee at Texas City are each 7:30pm starts.
