La Marque, Texas — Beginning in March, U.S. Marshals partner with local law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Texas to kick off an annual effort known as the Great Texas Warrant Roundup to collect the debt owed on outstanding warrants. In La Marque, and several other Galveston County cities, these efforts are scheduled from March 3 to March 6, 2020.
Notices are being mailed, and phone calls are being made to La Marque Municipal Court defendants with active warrants. Any citizen of Texas may come forward to square debt and pay fines without further penalties between now and when the Warrant Roundup begins on March 3.
According to La Marque City Marshal Russell Washington, once the roundup starts, you can be arrested at any time or any place, including your home, work or school.
“Don’t risk being arrested once the Texas Roundup starts,” said Marshal Washington. “If you think you have a warrant, contact us to find out for sure. If you voluntarily come to court and make arrangements, you will not be arrested.”
Specific information as to how to take care of warrants may be obtained by contacting the La Marque Municipal Court at 409-938-9245 or visiting www.municipalonlinepayments.com/lamarquetx.
The Texas Warrant Roundup involves more than 260 jurisdictions across the state. Locally, Galveston, Hitchcock, Kemah, League City, Texas City and Santa Fe will join the City of La Marque this March. If you have an outstanding warrant in Texas, it’s strongly advised to contact the local authorities and straighten out the warrant before the grace period ends.
“The best thing to do if you’re on the warrant list is to come forward and satisfy the debt as soon as possible to clear your name,” said Washington. “If you have questions, contact an attorney on your behalf. Just remember, if you’ve forgotten to pay a ticket or appear for a court date, you may have an outstanding warrant in your name.”
In addition to risking arrest and jail time, anyone with an unpaid fine or warrant during the Great Texas Warrant Roundup, a hold can be placed on the renewal of your Driver’s License until the warrant is resolved.
