
THE START OF THE MONTH means more sports interlapping with each other as the start of high school girls’ basketball season and high school boys’ hoops scrimmages joins the party. Meanwhile, Hitchcock and La Marque complete their high school football regular seasons along with a Thursday filled with swimming and diving.
Wednesday: No varsity high school, college or professional sports are on the schedule. Instead, watch both sides bicker about Tuesday night’s election results. Watch, but don’t participate.
Thursday: Although the annual Biker Rally won’t be held in Galveston, the annual Biker Rally golf meet will get underway at Moody Gardens beginning at 8:00am. Clear Brook, Clear Creek and Clear Springs will be among the teams participating in the two-day event.
The swimming/diving schedule will have Dickinson at Texas City (Doyle Natatorium) at 4:00pm, followed by a tri-meet at Clear Falls that includes Clear Brook and Clear Springs beginning at 5:00pm. Clear Creek at Deer Park and Friendswood at Memorial are each 6:00pm starts.
Galveston Ball’s football team hits the road to clash with Baytown Lee starting at 7:00pm.
Friday: The high school football schedule will have Clear Brook at Dickinson, Clear Creek at Clear Lake (Challenger/Columbia), Clear Springs at Brazoswood, and Sealy at La Marque beginning at 7:00pm, followed by La Porte at Friendswood, Hallettsville at Hitchcock, Santa Fe at Dayton and Texas City at Nederland kicking off at 7:30pm.
In high school volleyball, Cinco Ranch at Clear Creek starts at 6:00pm. Manvel at state-ranked Friendswood, Texas City at Galveston Ball and Santa Fe at Goose Creek Memorial start at 6:30pm.
High school girls’ basketball’s slate will have Galveston Ball visiting state-ranked Hitchcock at 6:00pm Texas City’s girls’ basketball team gets its final scrimmage when the Stingarees welcome Dickinson at 6:30pm. Santa Fe travels to Brazoswood for a 7:00pm tip.
Saturday: The games begin to count for high school girls’ basketball teams as Houston visits Rosenberg Terry at 11:30am. Santa Fe at Boling starts at 7:00pm.
The first boys’ high school basketball scrimmages includes La Marque at state-ranked Houston Yates at 8:00am and Texas City at CE King beginning at 10:00am.
A busy college football schedule begins with West Virginia at #22 Texas (ABC-13) at 11:00am, followed by Stephen F. Austin at Eastern Kentucky (ESPN3) at 2:00pm. Houston at #6 Cincinnati (ESPN) and Texas-San Antonio at Rice (ESPN3) both kick off at 2:30pm while #7 Texas A&M at South Carolina (ESPN) begins at 6:00pm.
