THE START OF 5A AND 6A high school football playoffs will see four area teams beginning their bid to Arlington. The weekend will also a host of boys’ and girls’ high school hoops and the first hints of the 2020-21 high school soccer season.
Wednesday: Nothing on the schedule.
Thursday: Clear Springs seeks to get past bi-district rival Pearland in a 6A, Region III, Division II opening round matchup at Challenger/Columbia Stadium beginning at 6:30pm.
Clear Springs’ swimming and diving team will also be in action when the Chargers visit Brazoswood for a dual meet that begins at 6:00pm.
Friday: Three more 6A, Region III bi-district matchups are on the schedule as Clear Creek meets Shadow Creek at Alvin High School, while Clear Falls squares off against Strake Jesuit at Challenger/Columbia Stadium. Meanwhile, Dickinson meets Dawson at The Rig in Pearland. Each game begins at 7:00pm.
The boys’ high school basketball schedule will have Hampshire-Fannett at La Marque at 6:00pm, followed by Hitchcock at Brazosport at 6:30pm. Clear Brook at Deer Park, Pearland at Clear Falls, Galena Park at Clear Springs, Dickinson at Shadow Creek, Friendswood at La Porte, Galveston Ball at Baytown Lee, Baytown Sterling at Santa Fe and Texas City at Manvel each start at 7:00pm.
The girls’ high school basketball slate starts with Manvel at Texas City at 5:45pm, with La Marque at Bay City and Baytown Sterling at Santa Fe each start at 6:30pm. Alief Hastings at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Alief Taylor, Clear Falls at Pearland, Barbers Hill at Clear Springs, Friendswood at Goose Creek Memorial and Baytown Lee at Galveston Ball are each 7:00pm starts.
Saturday: One girls basketball game on the schedule will see Clear Springs at Fort Bend Marshall beginning at 11:30pm. La Marque’s boys’ basketball team visits Van Vleck beginning at 12:30pm.
The college football schedule will have Houston at Memphis (ESPN+) at 11:00am, with Alabama-Birmingham at Rice kicking off at 12:00pm on ESPN3. Texas at Kansas (Fox 26) gets going at 2:30pm, while #5 Texas A&M welcomes Mississippi at 7:00pm in a game carried live om CBS 11.
