A Glimmer

The light is fading and the sun is sinking into the western sky. Night is falling and darkness is replacing the light. As the night sets in, we flick on a light switch and the dark is suddenly replaced with light. We turn on the headlights on our vehicles and can see the area in front of us. Street lights come on and give a soft glow to our night. But what do we do when darkness comes in and takes over the light in our souls? Many in our world are experiencing that dark place inside themselves. During these times in my life, I wondered if the light would ever shine again. It’s never easy finding our way through these times of darkness, and there is no time frame, because each person’s journey is individual. But it is possible to smile again. It is possible to feel joy again. My journey through the darkness was illuminated by two things: faith and hope. Often it was minute by minute because I could not see far enough ahead of me to feel certain that I would make it one day at a time. The light at times was a distant flicker, but when I searched for it, I could see it out on the horizon. The sun rose every morning in the east, and I saw beautiful sunsets again, painting the western skies with brilliant colors. My minute by minute started stretching out to hour by hour and finally day by day. For those of you who are dealing with pain, fear, grief, and darkness, I want to encourage you. You can make it through the nights. You can make it through the pain, intact but scarred. Rest assured, you will go through a myriad of emotions. Light will replace darkness, even if at first it is only a glimmer. Let that small glimmer come in and chase some of the darkness away.
