
WITH THE HOLIDAYS OVER, the high school sports schedule begins to take shape as basketball and soccer take the bulk of the attention. There is also powerlifting along with swimming and diving for area fans to get excited over.
Wednesday: The Rockets make a quick trip to the midwest for their only appearance at the Pacers this season. Gametime begins at 6:00pm with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest providing coverage shortly after the pregame show at 5:30pm.
Thursday: The start of the new year also means soccer tournaments are en vogue, as Friendswood’s boys take part in the Katy Tompkins tourney, while Friendswood’s girls team competes in the Humble ISD tournament. Both tourneys will conclude on Saturday.
Swimming and diving is also on the schedule with Clear Falls visiting Dulles for a 6:00pm start. Thursday also marks the first powerlifting meet of the season when Texas City travels to Santa Fe for a girls’ meet that begins at 4:00pm.
Friday: A busy high school boys’ basketball slate will have Clear Springs at Clear Brook, Brazoswood at state-ranked Clear Falls, Dickinson at Clear Lake, Friendswood at Santa Fe, Goose Creek Memorial at Galveston Ball, Needville at La Marque and La Porte at Texas City all starting at 7:00pm. Hitchcock at Van Vleck tips off at 8:00pm.
In girls’ high school hoops, state-ranked Hitchcock at Van Vleck and La Marque at Needville each start at 6:30pm, followed by Clear Brook at Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Brazoswood and Clear Lake at Dickinson at 7:00pm.
The high school girls’ soccer slate has Fort Bend Marshall at Santa Fe beginning at 7:30pm.
Two swimming/diving meets are also on the schedule with Clear Creek hosting a tri-meet that includes Friendswood and a third team to be announced, while Clear Springs welcomes Spring Woods and Pearland for a tri-meet beginning at 6:00pm.
Following their trip to Indiana, the Rockets return home for a game against the Magic beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest begins coverage with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Saturday: A handful of girls’ high school basketball is on the schedule with Galveston Ball at Goose Creek Memorial and Texas City at La Porte each starting at 12:30pm. Santa Fe at Friendswood tips off at 2:00pm.
Texas City will host Lutheran South in a soccer double-header at TCISD Stadium. The boys’ match begins at 12:00pm, while the girls’ match gets underway at 2:00pm.
