
The road to the high school girls’ basketball state finals begins on Thursday when La Marque takes on Rockport-Fulton in a bi-district round game at Tidehaven High School at 7:00pm. The Cougars are one of seven area teams competing in the playoffs.
As of press time, start times and locations were not confirmed for state-ranked Clear Springs vs. Alief Taylor, Dickinson vs. Dawson and Clear Creek vs. Pearland. Friendswood and state-ranked Hitchcock were awaiting their bi-district opponent.
As active as this weekend’s schedule looks, Mother Nature could have her way, as an arctic blast from Canada is expected to bring freezing rain along with near-freezing temps between Thursday and Sunday.
Wednesday: The final week of high school boys’ basketball regular season play tips off with state-ranked Clear Brook at Clear Falls, Dickinson at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Clear Lake, Santa Fe at Friendswood and Texas City at La Porte each starting at 7:00pm.
In girls’ high school soccer, Manvel visits Texas City at 6:00pm, while the day’s lone boys’ high school soccer match will see Santa Fe at Baytown Sterling at 6:00pm.
Track and field season begins to warm up as Santa Fe hosts a quad meet at 3:00pm.
Thursday: The high school powerlifting schedule includes Santa Fe at Alvin and Texas City at Dickinson. Both boys’ meets start at 4:00pm.
Texas City’s tennis team will also be in action when the Stingarees take part in the Brazosport Tournament.
The Rockets welcome the defending Eastern Conference champion Heat at 6:30pm, a game which will be televised nationally on TNT.
Friday: A massive slate of high school baseball scrimmages gets underway with Clear Brook at Pasadena Memorial at 3:45pm. Clear Creek at Deer Park, state-ranked Clear Springs at Galveston Ball, state-ranked Friendswood at Alvin and Brazoswood at Santa Fe each start at 4:00pm, followed by Clear Falls at Texas City at 4:30pm.
An equally busy high school softball scrimmage schedule will have Hitchcock at Bay Area Christian at 4:00pm, while Clear Brook at Texas City and Clear Creek at Shadow Creek each start at 6:00pm. Galveston Ball at Fort Bend Kempner starts at 6:30pm.
The high school boys’ soccer schedule will have La Marque at Hamshire-Fannett at 7:00pm, followed by Clear Falls at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Dickinson, Friendswood at Santa Fe, Goose Creek Memorial at Galveston Ball and La Porte at Texas City each beginning at 7:30pm.
Meanwhile, the girls’ high school soccer schedule has La Marque at Hamshire-Fannett at 5:00pm, while Clear Creek at Clear Falls, Dickinson at Clear Springs, Santa Fe at Friendswood, Galveston Ball at Goose Creek Memorial and Texas City at La Porte are each 7:30pm starts.
In high school tennis, Clear Brook, Clear Creek and Clear Falls will be among the teams at the Deer Park Tournament at 6:30am, the same time the Pearland Tournament begins with Clear Springs, Dickinson and Galveston Ball among the schools participating.
The high school track and field schedule has Clear Brook and Dickinson competing at the Hightower/Elkins Invitational at 12:00pm. Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs will be among the teams taking part at the John Morris Tournament in Pearland starting at 12:00pm.
Saturday: In high school boys’ basketball, Texas City at Friendswood, La Porte at Galveston Ball and Baytown Lee at Santa Fe each begin at 1:00pm.
The sole high school baseball scrimmage of the day has Ganado at La Marque at 12:00pm.
The high school softball scrimmage slate has Clear Falls, Clear Springs and Friendswood taking part in a scrimmage at Dobie, while state-ranked Dickinson and La Porte are part of a tri-scrimmage at Goose Creek Memorial. State-ranked Santa Fe visits Lamar Consolidated for one of its final tune-ups.
The Rockets begin a three-game swing out east with a visit to the Knicks beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
