Karen Lehr’s painting “Old Barn” received a Best of Show award in a Galveston Art League contest in 2020. The league, 2117A Postoffice St. in Galveston, is accepting entries to its Winter 2022 Juried Show on Jan. 31. Details: www. GalvestonArtLeague.com/exhibits.

Galveston Art League invites all member and nonmember artists older than 15 to enter the nonprofit organization’s Winter 2022 Juried Competition. Artists working in any medium may enter up to three works by bringing them to the Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. in downtown Galveston, from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Monday, Jan. 31. If they need to drop off entries on Jan. 30, they may do so by setting up an appointment with show director Joyce Buffalo; contact her at joyce.buffalo@gmail.com.

Members pay entry fees of $15 for their first two entries and $5 for the third. Nonmembers’ entry fees are $20 per entry. Entry fees are nonrefundable. As always, entry forms and full details about this show are in the prospectus posted at https://GalvestonArtLeague.com/exhibits/ (click link on page to download the prospectus).

Entry categories are: works on canvas or board, works on paper, photography, digital art, mixed media wall-hung, and 3-D. All artworks that are accepted into the show will be exhibited in the gallery from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays-Sundays throughout February. Artists may offer their works for sale during the exhibition period if they wish.

Houston resident Missy Rorrer, a jewelry designer, will judge the competition. She serves on the Visual Arts Committee of Webster Presbyterian Church. She has been general chairman for the Lunar Rendezvous Festival and is a member of the festival advisory board. She also has volunteered at the Bay Area Museum Guild.

This winter contest is one of three juried shows that the Galveston Art League hosts each year as part of its mission to promote visual arts and art education in the region.  The league, founded in 1914, has never had a salaried staff member. Volunteers handle every function from staffing the gallery to organizing a wide range of activities: workshops, children’s summer camps, website design and maintenance, and hanging each monthly exhibit.

Galveston Art League welcomes artists – and anyone who appreciates art – to join and enjoy the privileges of membership. General membership fees begin at $40 per year and are tax-deductible, as are donations to the 501(c)3 organization.  For further information, please visit www.GalvestonArtLeague.com or email gallery2117@gmail.com.
