Two area high school baseball players recently received the honor of making the 2022 Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Elite All-Star teams.

Clear Creek pitcher Collin McKinney and Friendswood catcher Dylan Maxcey were chosen to the select squads, with McKinney named to the Class 6A team, while Maxcey received a nod on the Class 5A team.

McKinney, who committed to play baseball at Baylor, was the anchor of a Clear Creek team that overcame a 3-10-1 start to win the District 24-6A title and advance to the Region III-6A quarterfinals before being eliminated by Pearland. He was also selected as the 24-6A most valuable player. The 6’6, 220-pounder, who also played first base for the Wildcats, could also hear his name called during the Major League Baseball amateur draft later this month.

Maxcey was dominant both behind the plate and with the bat for Friendswood, which advanced to the 5A state title game where they fell to Georgetown. Maxcey was also named to the UIL All-Tournament team along with being an easy choice on the District 22-5A team.

Like McKinney, Maxcey could hear his name chosen in the MLB draft, but he has already committed to play at Texas Tech, where he will join fellow Friendswood teammate Jacob Rogers on the Red Raiders roster next season.
