League City, TX – August 9, 2025GCYE (Galveston County Youth Ensemble) Powered by TDMEC.

The student-led music ensemble of The Dickinson Music Enrichment Center (TDMEC), will present a special performance at the Helen Hall Library on August 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This performance is a celebration of the hard work and dedication of TDMEC’s students and their mentors, showcasing the exceptional talent nurtured through TDMEC’s mission to provide free, high-quality music education to underserved youth in Galveston County.

The performance will feature young musicians from beginner to advanced levels, all members of GCYE Powered by TDMEC, and will be led by high school band section leaders who serve as music coaches and mentors. These student mentors help cultivate the next generation of musicians, educators, and leaders. The event is a testament to the growth and success of TDMEC and the community’s commitment to supporting youth music education.

Our Founding Story: Inspired by Ziyanna Jones

TDMEC was founded in February 2022 in memory of Ziyanna Jones, a passionate young woman whose love for music and desire to become a music educator inspired our mission. Ziyanna, a clarinet section leader in her high school band, tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run accident. She was known for her dedication, and her dream of helping others through music lives on through TDMEC. This program was created to ensure that underserved youth have access to the same opportunities for music education that Ziyanna would have cherished.

A Legacy of Achievement

Since its founding, TDMEC has expanded from just 13 students in its first year to over 25 students in the 2024-2025 academic year. TDMEC has become a vital part of the community, ensuring that young people from all backgrounds have access to the transformative power of music.

Notable milestones in TDMEC’s journey include:

  • The formation of GCYE Powered by TDMEC, providing students with performance opportunities and fostering growth through ensemble work.
  • Incorporation of high school band section leaders as part-time coaches, providing mentorship and leadership while inspiring the next generation of musicians.
  • Recognition of TDMEC students participating in district band and other music initiatives, with several of our students and coaches continuing to pursue careers in music education.
  • Providing free music lessons and instruments, ensuring no child is excluded due to financial barriers.

In addition to these successes, GCYE Powered by TDMEC music coaches and several members of the Dickinson High School Marching Band played a key role in bringing back the live marching band for the Dickinson 4th of July Children’s Parade, sponsored by The Pilot Club of Dickinson. This performance not only marked a return to a beloved tradition but also showcased the students’ talents and their leadership in the community.

Exciting Future Plans: Harbour Playhouse and South Houston Expansion

TDMEC’s future is filled with promise. The organization is working to acquire the Harbour Playhouse in Dickinson, TX, with plans to restore and establish it as a permanent home for the center and a community arts hub. The Ziyanna Jones Harbor Playhouse Of The Arts will provide a space for performances, rehearsals, and music education, fostering a creative environment for generations to come.

In addition, TDMEC is excited to announce plans for a new location in South Houston, at Gulfhaven SDA Church in Pasadena ISD. This new branch will expand TDMEC’s reach and offer free music lessons and mentorship to more underserved youth in the Houston area.
