Lions Club members serving popcorn, lemonade and hot chocolate is a tradition that keeps on giving at La Marque’s Christmas in the Park celebration. It’s a favorite of the community, and the lemonade is prepared by none other than La Marque’s very own Snow King, Greg Cornett.

“I make the lemonade every year to share here with the community,” Cornett said with a twinkle in his eyes.

Cornett is a former president of the local Lions Club.

Joining him and the rest of the club in community service is a new member, Gabrielle Fuentes. Her smile was beaming through as she posed with the group for a photo. She joined the Lions Club for several reasons.

“It’s a family tradition,” said Fuentes as she pointed to her mom, who has been a Lions Club member for eleven years.

“I wanted a way to help others, and I am dealing with some loss, and being part of the Lions Club and helping other people has helped me with my grieving,” Fuentes said.

Fuentes’ husband passed away three years ago, and the holiday season can be emotionally daunting.

Not only does Fuentes find community engagement helpful during the grieving process, she also has a message for people her age

“I think it is important that my generation get involved and volunteer,” Fuentes said. ” We need to keep these traditions going.”
