Their father raised them to believe it wasn’t about what they wanted to be when they grew up—it was about what they would own. A bakery, not just a baker, when sweet dreams filled their young minds. As adults, the Fisher sisters, Morgan and Mackenze are both being and owning.

The ladies are joint owners of Galveston’s Affaire d’art on Post Office Street. Founded in 2012, the gallery has evolved from being known as a fine arts gallery to now becoming Morgan’s vision of an art gallery.

“It’s whimsical, colorful, and growing,” both sisters shared in describing the gallery.

The gallery has a feeling of being playful and inviting, which matches what Morgan intended.

“It’s both fine art and fun art,” said Morgan.

Entering the gallery, you will find both art to adorn your walls and home décor to complete your space—whatever your taste and budget can accommodate is available.

Mackenzie and Morgan have been operating the gallery since former owner Scott Edwards lost his life while riding his motorcycle in June 2024. The sisters continue to experience a bond with Scott and his wife Samitha, who had passed away from a lengthy illness several years earlier.

Home décor crafted by Samitha’s mother, Catherine Hess, is available for purchase at Affaire d’art, and she occasionally helps with running the gallery. Morgan reports Hess is especially helpful during Art Walk when the gallery can be inundated with artists and visitors.

Scott was responsible for business operations, and his wife Samitha was the passionate artist. Together they created a lasting impression with From the Heart Gallery on Post Office and Affaire d’art.

The Fisher sisters stepped in to operate the gallery shortly after Scott’s death and then became owners in early 2025. The family concept lives on at Affaire d’art in a similar fashion, with one sister’s focus on art and the other on the business aspects of a gallery.

Mackenzie brings the business operations to the art gallery. She has a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship from Southern Texas and is working on a master’s degree at Texas A&M in entrepreneurial leadership. She also dabbles in art and has a few of her own pieces on display at the gallery.

A bonus to Mackenzie’s life is Gracie, the dog that was left without an owner after Scott passed away. Mackenzie remembers vividly her sister pleading with her to keep Gracie. She also recalls that she had her mind made up to focus on real estate, but that all changed when the gallery—and the artists who depended on it—needed someone to step in.

I first met Morgan three years ago when she was an artist and gallerist in training at From the Heart Gallery. Along with currently being an owner, she serves as the curator at the gallery. Her focus as an artist has been on miniature clay sculptures, paper mache wall hangings, and photography. She and Scott Edwards were both featured in The Post Newspaper.

One of Morgan’s favorite aspects of being a curator and owner of the gallery is watching the artists’ growth and evolution, she explained with a huge smile as she pointed to one of the artist’s work.

In honor of Samitha and Scott, they are installing a “free little gallery.” The installation will commence with a ribbon cutting which will also kick off Galveston’s art week. The public is invited to attend and help honor the memory of the Edwards along with celebrating art in Galveston. The event takes place on January 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Affaire d’art, 227 B Post Office St., Galveston, Texas.

Though the transfer of ownership came through tragedy, the ladies are moving forward and painting the corner of Post Office and 23rd in Galveston with a winning style. Most recently they were voted Galveston’s number one art gallery with Galveston.com’s yearly awards.

The gallery and Morgan collectively garnered five awards from The Daily News Reader’s Choice, 2025.
