TEXAS CITY, TX – Building on the success of its “Texas City Tells” podcast and its spinoff “Texas City Tells: Unsolved,” the City of Texas City has launched another special podcast series. Each episode of the new “Texas City Tells: History Uncovered” podcast centers around one topic, moment, individual or landmark in the city’s history. Hosted by Local History Librarian/Archivist Theresa Mayfield and Museum Curator Shelby Rodwell, the series aims to tell the stories of Texas City’s past.
The inaugural episode centers around a Texas City icon – Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and blues legend Charles Brown, who served as a major influence for some of the biggest names in music, including Ray Charles and Bonnie Raitt.
The episode goes beyond just sharing facts from a history book; instead, it tells the stories of Brown’s life, like how he worked as a chemist in his early days and the heartbreaking story behind his iconic pink Cadillac.
Launched last week, the new series has already proven to be a hit, drawing tens of thousands of views and downloads already.
It joins the city’s lineup of popular podcasts, including the original “Texas City Tells” podcast, which spotlights entrepreneurs and local businesses and shares upcoming events, and “Texas City Tells: Unsolved” which is hosted in partnership with the Texas City Police Department and features unsolved homicides in hopes of drawing new attention and leads in the cases.
Last year, “Texas City Tells” hit number three on Apple Podcasts in the Government category, and the team behind the podcast has been invited to speak at conferences throughout the state, serving as a model for other agencies who are interested in creating their own podcasts. The podcasts are available on the City of Texas City’s social media platforms, as well as Spotify,
Apple Music, Amazon Music and anywhere podcasts are streamed.
