Twenty years of serving as a firefighter is an impressive amount of time — add to it that being the first female firefighter in Texas City to reach the double decade milestone, and that’s noteworthy.
Michelle Rosales-Macia was recognized for being the first female firefighter in Texas City to serve for 20 years. The Texas City Fire Department is 115 years old and her milestone wasn’t just one for her but also one for the department and one for the city.

What motivated her to become a firefighter? It was that moment in our nation’s history that most of us will never forget.
“It was the first anniversary of 9/11 that was when I decided what I wanted to do,” said Rosales-Macia.
It took her two years to pass the physical. Once she was on the team of firefighters, she set her sights on a good role model, Captain Ebert. Her advice to future firefighters is to find a good guide like she did with Captain Ebert.
Mayor Dedrick Johnson along with Fire Chief Dennis Harris were onboard with honoring hers and the city’s milestone. Also in attendance was retired Fire Chief David Zacherl.
