At this time of the year, so much attention is focused on
giving that some times we neglect to take care of ourselves.
Our days are full as we try to find time to shop,
volunteer, cook, send cards and shop some more.
Getting everything accomplished in between work and
all the many functions taking place around the county,
we skip breakfast, run errands during lunch and b the
time we get home at night, we have consumed untold
cookies, pies, candies and other Holiday fare throughout
the day….so who wants dinner?
Statistically speaking, most of us are on track to gain
5 to 7 pounds from Thanksgiving to New Years and
unfortunately, most of that weight will settle around the
mid-section; the worst possible place to retain extra
pounds. And since we have also been discussing the
importance of responsibility as it relates to preparedness,
it seems apropos to look at the accomplishments
of one of our Citizen Entrepreneurs who opened a
Zumba Studio – J’s Shake & Dance Fitness Fusion – 3
years ago and now has added J’s Tropical Fruit Snacks
to provide her clients with healthy, fresh fruit smoothies
and drinks to help get them through their day.
Originally from Usulután, El Salvador, Rubia Jiron’,
with the help of husband, family and friends, has created
a Mexican Treats and Sweets Wonderland right
behind her Zumba business, that offers some of the
most creative, artistic and delicious classic Mexican
treats you could find this side of the border! From
Chamoy covered apples and straws, to Chicharrone
with avocado and a hot sauce to die for, this little enterprise
has an incredible menu and a very friendly staff.
As much as we enjoyed trying all the wonderful items
on Rubia’s menu, we were equally impressed by the
Zumba classes. Affordable, ($5 for a walk-in class)
energizing and not nearly as intimidating as those huge
health studios, J’s Fitness Fusion has classes from
teens to adults and both men and women. You can even
learn to become an instructor, like Rubia did, if you are
so moved. You can find both J’s Shake & Dance and
J’s Tropical Fruit on Facebook. But check out the menu
below and next time you’re on the loop, stop in and treat
yourself to a quick workout and a smoothie. It will keep
you focused on the holidays in a healthy way!
By the way, Rubia, teaches classes at the Ronald
McDonald House, UTMB Field House in La Marque
and is always looking for ways to give back to the community
that has welcomed her and her family and her
businesses so openly. There is also an opportunity to
purchase a membership card with 10 or more classes
on it. What a wonderful gift to share with family or
friends. And since we all need encouragement to get
started on the road to good health, why not purchase a
group of classes for that friend who is willing to take the
journey with you!.
