The American Legion Riders, Post 89, Texas City,
hosted a Toy Run to the Ronald McDonald House in
Galveston which took place on Saturday, December 9,
2017. The run originated from Diamond Jim’s Saloon in
Texas City. The ride had participation from other caring
motorcycle clubs, namely, the Voyagers in Santa
Fe and League City, the V-Twins, the Riders Republic
and the Damaged Souls. In addition and knowing it’s a
challenge to keep a long string of motorcycles together
while navigating through traffic, the Texas City Police
Department, the Galveston Police Department and the
Galveston County Sheriffs Office escorted the run and
did an outstanding job keeping all the riders safe.
Over 50 motorcycle riders delivered hundreds of toys
to the patients at the Ronald McDonald House. All the
riders stood in line side-by-side in a bucket brigade formation
to deliver the toys from the trailer to the facility.
Jim Rabon, American Legion Rider, who spear-headed
the event, stated that it just hits your heart hard to
see the kids who are going through a really tough time
in their lives. But it so gratifying to see a smile on their
faces when they receive the toys. We hope that we let
them know that they are special.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a much needed
Home Away From Home for parents to be close to
their child who are going through medical treatment. It
is a place filled with Hope. Hope that each family will
see a better tomorrow. Hope that today’s treatment will
make a difference, and Hope that each child will live
and thrive and grow to be a happy and productive adult.
The staff at the Ronald McDonald House are incredibly
dedicated. They provide compassionate hospitality and
lift the spirits and brighten the days of the families there.
A special thanks goes out to Rich Huntley, Owner of
Best Shirts 4 U, who created the lettering of the business
names which was placed on the side of trailer
used to deliver the toys. And a Big Big Thank You goes
out to all those listed below who allowed us to place toy
collection boxes in their establishment.
