PLAY BALL!! The Astros start their quest to hold on to their World Series title while the best of Texas high school track and field visit Austin in what will be a sneak preview of May’s state championship meet.
TODAY, WEDNESDAY: Golf is the highlight of the day as Santa Fe and Texas
City will be among the boys high school teams who will compete at Eagle Pointe
Golf Course in Baytown. The event brings the participants one step closer to next
month’s district championship.
TOMORROW, THURSDAY: The high school baseball schedule will have Clear
Creek at Alvin, Friendswood at Clear Brook, Clear Lake at Clear Falls, Clear Springs
at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Fort Bend Marshall, Texas City at Manvel and Santa Fe at Shadow Creek. Each game starts at 7:00pm.
In softball action, Texas City at Galveston Ball, Clear Brook at Clear Falls,
Friendswood at Dickinson and Santa Fe at Fort Bend Elkins are each 6:30pm starts while Clear Springs at Clear Creek begins at 6:45pm.
Texas City’s tennis team will be in action at Manvel while the Stingarees’ girls will
join Friendwood and a host of other area teams in at the Baytown Rockhold Relays that will be held at Stallworth Stadium. Texas City’s boys track and field team will be in San Marcos for the Texas State Relays.
Opening Day of the 2018 Major League Baseball season will have the Astros beginning defense of their World Series championship in Arlington against the Rangers. Justin Verlander gets the start for Houston while Rangers manager and La Marque native Jeff Banister will turn to veteran Cole Hamels. ESPN, Fox Sports Southwest and AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will each air the game starting at 2:30pm.
FRIDAY: Most of the area’s high school track and field teams will converge on
Austin for the 91st annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, held at Myers Stadium
on the campus of the University of Texas. Dickinson’s Koi Johnson, who has the
state’s best effort in the girls triple jump, will be among the competitors in the twoday event.
The Astros face the Rangers at 7:05pm with Dallas Keuchel getting the start for
Houston. Texas will counter with former Astros hurler Doug Fister in a game that
will be aired on both AT&T Sportsnet Southwest and Fox Sports Southwest. Both
networks will have pregame shows starting at 6:30pm.
Continuing their bid to lock up the best record in the NBA, the Rockets host the Suns at Toyota Center starting at 7:00pm. Houston has won all three previous meetings this season against Phoenix. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game on an alternative channel starting with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
SATURDAY: The Astros and Rangers go at it beginning at 3:05pm as Lance
McCullers Jr. gets the nod for Houston. Texas will toss Matt Moore on the mound in a game that will again have triple coverage. Fox Sports1, AT&T Southwest and Fox Sports Southwest will each have the game. All three will start with pregame shows at 2:30pm.
