The Weekend began with a reminder that helping others can be a load of fun! Independence Village held their 18th Annual Music To Our Ears Gala with a really

impressive Auction and a Silent Auction to boot. All the residents were in attendance and a couple of them showed they can really cut a rug when the music started.

By 10:00 Saturday morning, 6th Street was buzzing with artists and vendors and the glorious smell of barbeque-fill Old Smokey pits being fired up for the day’s event.

Still, even with all the wonderful sights and smells, one had to tear oneself away and stop by the 1876 Settlement Celebration with its own treats of horseback rides,

flavored pickles, barbeque and a visit back in time when children were given as gifts and their ancestors made time to stop and pay their respects – even the ones

running for Congress!

Chief didn’t get to stay long though because he had to get to Memorial Lutheran Church to receive a plaque honoring Texas city Police Department First Responders
