SUPER-SIZED FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS WEEKEND SPORTS SCHEDULE

ALTHOUGH THE year is young, area fans will be hard-pressed to top Friday’s
schedule, which will see seven different sports in varying degrees of their respective seasons.
WEDNESDAY: Hump Day means high school wrestling action is on the agenda,
as Clear Springs hosts a tri-meet that welcomes Clear Falls and Clear Lake
beginning at 5:00pm. Brazoswood at Clear Creek also hit the mat at 5:00pm.
La Marque High School will host its annual fall sports banquet at the Doyle Center in Texas City starting at 6:00pm. The evening will honor the Cougars’ football
and volleyball teams.
The Rockets continue their swing out east when they visit the Knicks at 6:30pm.
Entering Monday’s game at Philadelphia, James Harden has averaged a video
game-like 44.4 points in the month of January to go along with 8.6 rebounds
and 8.9 assists while also adding 1.1 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. AT&T
Sportsnet Southwest begins their pregame show at 6:00pm.
THURSDAY: One boys’ soccer match is on the docket, as Alvin visits Clear
Creek at 7:30pm in a contest that begins District 24-6A play.
FRIDAY: The boys’ basketball schedule starts at 7:00pm with Clear Falls at Alvin, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Clear Springs at Dickinson, Santa Fe at Friendswood and Galena Park at Galveston Ball. Hitchcock at Palacios and stateranked La Marque at West Columbia start at 7:30pm.
In girls’ basketball, Hitchcock at Palacios tips off at 6:15pm, while Galveston Ball
at Galena Park and West Columbia at La Marque start at 6:30pm. Clear Lake at
Clear Creek, Alvin at Clear Falls, Dickinson at Clear Springs and Friendswood
at Santa Fe are each 7:00pm starts.
There will be three boys’ soccer matches on the schedule, with Clear Creek
at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at Clear Springs and Clear Lake at Dickinson each
starting at 7:00pm.
Santa Fe at Alvin kicks off the girls’ soccer schedule at 6:30pm. Clear Brook at
Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Clear Falls and Dickinson at Clear Lake are each
7:30pm starts.
The road to state begins for swimmers and divers, as the District 25-5A meet will
have Texas City among the participants at Don Cook Natatorium in Sugar Land,
while District 24-6A will host its two-day meet at Texas City’s Doyle Natatorium.
Tennis is also on the schedule, with Clear Brook taking part in the Kingwood
Invitational, which begins at 6:30am. Both Clear Creek and Clear Springs are
at the Humble Varsity Tournament, while Clear Falls is at the Atascocita Varsity
Tournament.
The day will also mark the first day of UIL baseball tryouts, while the girls’ spring
track and field season warms up with a practice tri-meet that will have Clear
Brook and Clear Springs visiting Clear Creek.’
As if the day wasn’t loaded enough, the Rockets will visit the Raptors in a nationally televised game on ESPN starting at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will
also have the game and will kickoff their pregame show at 6:30pm.
SATURDAY: After a busy Friday, it stands to reason Saturday should be quiet.
Mostly, it is, with the exception of tennis and swimming, but Texas City’s boy’s
track team will be taking part in the Cowboy Invitational on the campus of McNeese State University
