THERE COULD BE A Game 7…or there could joy and celebrating throughout the area. Only the outcome of Tuesday’s Game 6 of the World Series can provide a clear answer. WEDNESDAY: Either the Astros are basking in the joy of winning a second World Series in three years…or there’s a Game 7 against the Nationals, who would have ace Max Scherzer – who was supposed to pitch Game 5 but was sidelined with back issues – while the Astros will have Zack Greinke in the winner-take-all showdown. If there is a Game 7, KRIV 26 will have the game live at 7:08pm. There will be a Houston-Washington match up regardless of how Game 6 of the World Series shakes out, as the Rockets visit the Wizards in what will be Houston’s first road trip of the season. In fact, the game begins a four-game east coast swing over the next week. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game live at 7:00pm following the pregame show at 6:30pm. The day is also the first day for Texas high school boys’ basketball teams to start practice. In the case of two area teams, it means beginning as state-ranked programs. Dickinson is ranked fourth in Class 6A in the initial Texas Basketball Coaches Association poll. Texas City is ranked 23rd in the 5A poll. There is one girls’ basketball team raked in the TABC poll, as Hitchcock is ranked 25th in the 3A poll. THURSDAY: Texas City’s boys’ golf team will be at River Terrace Country Club as part of an event that will be hosted by Clear Creek. Meanwhile, Clear Creek’s girls’ golf team will be at Eagle Pointe Golf to participate in an event hosted by Barbers Hill. FRIDAY: There is one non-district volleyball match on the schedule as Clear Falls visits Friendswood beginning at 5:30pm. Moody Gardens will be the site for a boys’ golf meet that will be hosted by Clear Lake. Fellow CCISD schools Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs will be among the schools taking part in the two-day clash. The Rockets get an early start when they visit the Nets at 6:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest begins its coverage at 5:30pm. SATURDAY: Santa Fe gets the unofficial honor of tipping off the 2019-20 girls’ high school basketball season when the Indians travel to Wharton for a 10:30am scrimmage.

AREA HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS SEEK TO FILL POSTSEASON SLOTS

WITH THE penultimate week of the high school football season, at least four teams are in position to start preparing for the postseason. State-ranked Dickinson clinched the District 24-6A title while Friendswood is assured a playoff spot in District 22-5A. Clear Springs and La Marque appear to be in but will have their postseason positioning determined by their last two games. Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Hitchcock each have a solid chance to punch their playoff tickets based on the next two weeks.

Thursday: No varsity, college or pro games on the schedule

Friday: The next to last week of the regular season starts at 7:00pm with Galveston Ball at Angleton, Clear Creek at Clear Falls (Veterans Memorial), Clear Lake at Clear Springs (Challenger-Columbia), Wharton at La Marque and state-ranked Foster at Texas City. Hitchcock at Boling and Dayton at Santa Fe each kick off at 7:30pm.

Saturday: A pair of high school football games are on tap with Alvin at Clear Brook (Challenger-Columbia) and Friendswood at Terry. Both games start at 1:00pm.

The college football slate begins with Houston at Central Florida (ESPN2) and Texas San-Antonio at Texas A&M (SEC Network) at 11:00am. Texas Southern at Grambling starts at 2:00pm, followed by Marshall at Rice at 2:30pm. Central Arkansas at Lamar (ESPN+) begins at 3:00pm, while Stephen F. Austin visits McNeese (ESPN+) at 4:00pm.
