LA MARQUE JUNIOR wide receiver Jauron Reid Jr. was selected as the District 11-4A Most Valuable Player following a remarkable season that saw Reid help guide the Cougars to the playoffs for a 10th straight year.
Reid caught 10 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns while also rushing for 166 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. He also completed two of his three passing attempts along with handling punting duties for La Marque, which finished 6-5 overall.
The Cougars were represented on the first team offense by sophomore running back Armond Robinson, senior offensive lineman Alfredo Melendez and junior tight end Dre’shaun Jones. Making the second team offense were freshman running back Marquis Tarver, senior offensive linemen Khalil James-Ware and CJ Yancy and junior kicker Jonathan Hipolito.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior defensive end Jerry Bedford, senior linebackers Ja’Tavious Adams and Jacobe Wagner and senior defensive back Ike Owens were named to the first team, while senior defensive end J’Vonte Dozier, sophomore linebackers Brandon Jones and Rayson Johnson and senior defensive back Kristian Franklin were selected to the 11-4A second team defense.
Sweeny dominated the reminder of the district’s awards. Senior receiver/running back Justice Clemons was selected as the Offensive MVP, with senior defensive tackle Treyvon Brooks taking home Defensive MVP. Sophomore running back/defensive back Xavier Woods was named the district’s Newcomer of the Year while Bulldogs head coach Randy Lynch and his coaches were named Staff of the Year.
