THE BIGGEST EVENT OF THE weekend will be bi-district round volleyball action. The area will have 5A state finalist Friendswood seeking a return to the title match, while Texas City, which grabbed the last playoff spot in 22-5A, looks to make noise in Region III. Clear Falls captured the 24-6A regular season crown and will be joined by Clear Springs and always-dangerous Clear Creek when playoff matches begin on Thursday.

Wednesday: Don’t expect much from the Rockets during the virtual NBA Draft, which will be aired on ESPN beginning at 6:00pm. The Rockets won’t have a draft pick entering the session, yet the team will have its share of intrigue as All-Stars James Harden and Russell Westbrook reportedly want out of Houston. Do expect plenty of trade speculation involving them throughout the night.

Thursday: Swimming and diving dominates the day as Dawson visits Clear Falls while Clear Springs is at Clear Lake in a tri-meet with North Shore at 6:00pm.

There is one high school football game on the slate with Santa Fe traveling to Kingwood Park for a 7:30pm kickoff.

Clear Falls takes part in the evening’s sole high school boys’ basketball game when the Knights welcome Houston Christian at 7:30pm.

Friday: The home stretch of 5A and 6A high school football regular season action kicks off with Clear Springs at Clear Brook (Challenger/Columbia Stadium), Clear Lake at Dickinson and Galveston Ball at Friendswood beginning at 7:00pm. Texas City at Dayton (Game can be heard on Victory Sports Network) kicks off at 7:30pm.

The girls’ high school basketball schedule starts with Texas City at Brazosport at 6:15pm, followed by Clear Brook at Alvin, Clear Creek at Katy, Oak Ridge at Clear Falls, state-ranked Clear Springs at Dulles, La Porte at Dickinson, Deer Park at Friendswood, Eisenhower at La Marque, Santa Fe at Galena Park each starting at 7:00pm.

State-ranked Dickinson at Westbury begins the boys’ high school slate at 6:00pm. Clear Brook at Porter, La Marque at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Bridgeland, Clear Lake at Friendswood, Hitchcock at Galveston Ball and Kingwood at Texas City each begin at 7:00pm.

Clear Creek’s swimming and diving team takes part in a tri-meet at Spring Branch ISD Natatorium that will include Houston Memorial and Stratford beginning at 6:00pm.

Saturday: Boys’ basketball play tips at 1:00pm with Friendswood at Alvin. There are a pair of girls’ basketball games, with Texas City hosting state-ranked Hitchcock at 10:45am and Santa Fe at Danbury at 1:30pm.

In college football, Stephen F. Austin at Memphis (ESPN+) and Houston at SMU (ESPNU) start at 11:00am. Rice at North Texas (ESPN3) begins at 1:00pm and #22 Texas at Kansas (ESPN2) kicks off at 2:30pm.
