From Jonathan Hersh
La Marque High School Boys’ Soccer Coach
(Thursday) was the first La Marque HS Boys Soccer game in over a decade. Our young men performed amazingly with the short time we’ve had to practice with little to no knowledge of soccer. Our display of fun, sportsmanship, athleticism, and pride truly flourished from start to finish and continued after the game was over.
We needed this opportunity of bringing soccer back to La Marque HS as football and basketball are really the only youth sports our students have in the Galveston County area that they live in. Once in high school after football season is over, if they didn’t make the basketball team there isn’t much else for them to participate in. Soccer is giving our students a great reason to continue to stay active in high school athletics and keep them off the streets while providing them the continued competitiveness they like while having fun and building the comradery with each other that we as coaches have been working to develop.
They are getting the great conditioning soccer requires while having fun and learning about a new sport they had little to no knowledge about. Soccer has given these students the opportunity we need to turn the corner of losing students interest in athletics and keeping them in school.
