A Family

How would you describe your family? I have a big family, and we have seen and done it all. Ups, downs, ins and outs. Happy and sad, extreme highs and the lowest of lows.

There is one thing I can tell you for sure though: we have love. We have laughter. We have second, third and endless chances because we have huge amounts of forgiveness, mercy and grace. We make mistakes. Lots of them. But we learn and we grow, and we get up and keep trying. We can be so stupid sometimes, but we can also be gloriously brilliant at other times. We have hurt each other and hurt ourselves, yet we’ve learned how to help one another heal.

We are fallible, wonderful, silly, special, smart, funny, gracious, fabulous, crazy, difficult, courageous, boisterous, stubborn, stupendous, vivacious, amazing people that make up this unique group that we call our family. And I love each one so much, whether joined by birth, or by adoption, or fostered or by marriage. Not very many people these days have families with 10 kids. Looking back, I sometimes wonder how we did it, but I’m glad that we did.
