In a world with so much negativity, craziness, racial tension,
government flipped upside down and so may other
things I could speak on right now, today I want to speak to
you about Being the Light in this dark world because you
really never know who you’re inspiring.
ON November 23, 2017 Thanksgiving of this year, I
was at The Lady of Fatima school serving Thanksgiving
Dinner as I have been for the last five years. Early in the
day, as I was bringing some sweet potatoes into the gym,
an older lady, very sweet, walked up to me and asked me
was I Doc Amey. Being that I had never seen her before
I was a little puzzled. So I said “ Yes Ma’am I sure am.
How are you doing today?” She said “I am Blessed. Now,
you may not know me but I want you to know that I get
The Post newspaper every Sunday and I read your articles
and they are very inspiring and they encourage me
very much. So please keep on writing them because I so
look forward for your articles every Sunday.”
When I first pitched the idea to David Day, it sounded
like a grand idea. We were all happy about it and we sat
down with the editor and she agreed to write what was on
my heart in the form of a weekly article. We did this for
weeks on end and at some point I started feeling a little
discouraged. I began to feel like we weren’t getting the
response that I was hoping for. I was beginning to wonder
if it was even being read.
But that November day, while serving Thanksgiving
Dinner, I received a much needed confirmation that the
article was being read and it was actually a help to some.
When this sweet lady hugged me, and told me to please
keep writing she had no idea that she had been a light
for me.
So when you are in your walk and you are living your
life let your light shine because you just never know who
you are inspiring. I had never met this person and from
the look on her face, and the genuine hug she gave me, it
was like she met a celebrity. And it let me know that what
we do here at The Post is touching people and encouraging
people and giving them hope. When I first spoke to
David about the idea, he told me he wanted a paper that
promoted positivity, hope and change. I thank God for
the opportunity that I have here at The Post to reveal my
heart every week and be a part of that positivity, hope
and change. So if I have ever encouraged you to stand
strong and continue
the walk then know
that you have the
power to do the same
thing for someone
else. And if you feel
moved to share your
story, let us know
because we would
love to know who we
are reaching. I love
you guys and I will
see you right back
here next week. Be
The Change You
Want to See
