We are living in trying times that is no
secret. There are so many people doing
horrible things out in the world that want
to wreak havoc on it. But we cannot just
sit back and let these things happen. We
have to be vigilant, we have to be careful
and we have to fight back. And if you are
concerned that you may not know the
best course of action to take, fear not,
because a town hall meeting on Tuesday
will prepare you.
I had the chance to speak to the Texas
City Police Department (TCPD) earlier
this week to discuss the meeting. The
meeting, which is open to anyone who
lives, works, or attends school in Galveston
County, will discuss how to identify a
potential perpetrator of an attack, how
to recognize and understand that perpetrator’s
mental state, ways to prevent
the attacks and how to protect yourself
if you find yourself in such a situation.
“These attacks can happen in places of
worship, shopping centers, business;
any place of gather, and it is important to
be prepared,” said the TCPD.
The meeting, which is being hosted by the Texas City
Police Department, will also include FBI special agent
Tribble and Jack Roady, Galveston County District Attorney,
discussing how these types of cases are prosecuted.
The meeting will address ways to prevent attacks and
actions to take if you find yourself in such a situation and
will be open for questions. The meeting will take place at
the Doyle Convention Center, 2010 5th Avenue North in
Texas City on Tuesday December 5 at 6:00pm.
Along with discussing the meeting, the TCPD also
wanted to touch on the proactive actions
Texas City takes to prevent crimes in the
area. “With the support of Chief Robert Burby
and the Mayor’s office, the police department
has been able to proactively combat all
types of crime,” said the TCPD. In conversation
with the department, they also touched
on the Citizens Police Alumni, which is
a means to reach out to citizens and help
them get a better insight on what the police
department does, through training class,
events and auxiliary support. Furthermore,
the TCPD also spoke about the Youth Explorers
Program, which helps young people
understand how law enforcement works.
Along with this, the TCPD also told me
about the free security assessments they
provide to businesses and facilities. They
will come out to the location, assess it, check
for risks and come up with ways to mitigate
these risks. If you would like your business
assessed, contact Corporal Timothy Herd at
409-229-7771 or therd@texas-city-tx.org.
The TCPD also mentioned that, if you ever
feel concerned about something happening
in your neighborhood, be sure to call the
non-emergency number of the TCPD. “Our
patrol division is always vigilant in keeping
Texas City residents safe,” said the TCPD.
Protecting yourself and your loved ones should always
be top priority. So be sure to attend the town hall meeting
this Tuesday at 6:00pm.
