TODAY, WEDNESDAY: Depending on the outcome of Monday’s game against the
Jazz, the Rockets could be facing the Lakers with a 15-game win streak on the
line. Houston entered the week with the NBA’s best record at 24-4. The game also
marks the first time Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball will play at Toyota Center.
NBA TV will have the game live at 7:00pm, while AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will
start its coverage beginning at 6:30pm.
TOMORROW, THURSDAY: The boys’ basketball schedule starts with Texas City at
Fort Bend Willowridge at 1:00pm, followed by Galveston Ball at Summer Creek at
3:00pm. State-ranked La Marque hosts Katy Paetow, while Santa Fe is at Galena
Park. Both games begin at 7:00pm.
In girls basketball action, Fort Bend Willowridge is at Texas City beginning at
3:00pm, with Summer Creek at Galveston Ball and Galena Park at Santa Fe each
tipping off at 7:00pm.
FRIDAY: The final boys basketball games before Christmas start at 12:15pm when
Van Vleck visits Hitchcock. Clear Lake is at state-ranked Dickinson at 4:00pm,
while Clear Brook at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Alvin and Friendswood at Clear
Falls each begin at 7:00pm.
Girls basketball begins at 4:00pm when Alvin travels to Clear Springs. Clear Creek
is at Clear Brook beginning at 5:00pm, while Clear Falls at Friendswood and
Dickinson at Clear Lake each start at 7:00pm.
The Rockets will host the Clippers in a nationally-televised game on ESPN beginning
at 7:00pm. It will mark the first time the teams have met since Houston
acquired All-Star point guard Chris Paul in a blockbuster trade with Los Angeles
during the summer. While Paul has thrived with the Rockets, the Clippers have
sputtered, opening the week with an 11-17 record.
SATURDAY: The high school football season comes to a conclusion with state
championship games in Class 5A, Division I and both classes in 6A. It has been
eight seasons since a local team advanced to a title game, as La Marque lost the
2010 Class 4A, Division II state final against Aledo. Manvel, which won District
23-5A, played in the Class 5A, Division II championship game against Dallas
Highland Park on Friday night.
