MAKING THE GRADE AREA PLAYERS RECEIVE ALL-STATE ACADEMIC HONORS

A TOTAL OF 22 area high school football and volleyball players were honored for
their academic work when the Texas Army National Guard and Texas High School
Coaches Association announced their all-state teams. The award recognizes student-
athletes who succeeded in GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT score.
Friendswood safety Reid Nickerson was selected to the elite team for his performance
in the classroom as the 24-6A all-district selection saw his work and dedication
pay off with the opportunity to attend Yale University beginning next fall. He
was also one of four Mustangs to receive all-state honors, with quarterback Steven
Ridout, defensive end Nathan Williams and linebacker Jake Yurachek each being
named to the second team.
Clear Creek had four members of its volleyball team selected, with outside hitter
Emma Wagenknect being named to the first team, while outside hitter Jenna
Metzinger, defensive specialist Sydney O’Dell and Hailey Thibodeaux each earning
spots on the second team.
Four other area schools were represented:
CLEAR BROOK: Receiver Gareth Cupples, lineman Zach Homan, defensive back
Joey Prasek and running back Jarrett Smith (second team), linebacker Josh Green,
linebacker Isaac Guinn and receiver Jared Mangum (honorable mention).
