REMARKABLE SEASONS from Landon Roque and Mike Welch were rewarded last week when the Dickinson football standouts were each named members of the Associated Press Sports Editors Class 6A All-State team. Roque earned first team All-State honors after an impressive senior season that saw him record 126 total tackles that also included seven tackles for loss. Roque had three interceptions for a defense that allowed just 11.5 points per game in the regular season. Welch was selected as the quarterback on the APSE second team, as he helped guide the Gators to a 10-2 finish, the fourth time in the last five years the program has won at least 10 games. The junior accounted for 43 total touchdowns while also throwing for over 2,400 yards and rushing for nearly 800 yards. The duo was among nine Houston area players who were named to the All-State teams.
