CLEAR SPRINGS sophomore Jermia Green made a lasting impact on the girls’ basketball scene this season, giving Chargers coach Pamela Crawford the satisfaction of knowing Green will be around for two more campaigns.
Green also impressed the District 24-6A coaches enough to receive both the district’s newcomer and defensive player of the year this week. Green averaged a team-best 11.8 points per game while also recording 6.2 rebounds and 3.1 steals per contest to help Clear Springs to a 26-11 overall record and a tenth straight district championship.
Making the first team along with Green were teammates Vianey Galvan, Niya Johnson and McKenna Worrell, the Clear Falls trio of Josephine Adegbite, Alexis Clayborne and Lauryn Small, Eliya Ellis and Lauren Sinclair of Clear Creek and Alyssa Berry of Clear Brook.
The second team included Blaise Blair and D’nea Johnson of Clear Springs, Clear Creek’s Macie Illyes and DeAzhia Smith, Morgan McGaugh, Niah Richard and Piper Stephenson of Clear Falls and Clear Brook’s duo of Hailey Henry and Veyda Lake.
Clear Lake’s Tara Kessner was selected as the district’s offensive player of the year while Alvin’s Justin Walker received coach of the year honors.
