My, How Times Have Changed
Duck and Cover Chorale Performs for the Texas City Rotary and nobody was hiding under their tables. As a matter of fact, this duck and cover got a Standing “O”! College of the Mainland’s A Capella group, with their leader, James Heffel, entertained the group with a variety of harmonizing interpretations – the William Tell Overture and a rendition of the Irish Blessing “may The Road Rise Up to Meet You” far outpaced Bert The Turtle.
Their leader, Dr James Heffel, is director of vocal arts activities at College of the Mainland in Texas City, where he directs all choirs and teaches voice and academic music courses. Joining the faculty in 1990, Dr. Heffel has been selected as “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” and has been a finalist for the award on several occasions. He has directed choirs that have appeared in many local and regional concert venues, and international tours include Italy, Germany, Austria and Ireland.
Dr. Heffel holds degrees in voice performance from Kansas State University, Arizona State University and the University of Houston. An active soloist, he has appeared on the operatic and concert stage across the United States and is frequently engaged as a clinician and adjudicator for choral and solo vocal events.
