Something for every sports fan this weekend
Wednesday: The Astros split up the spring training roster when a group of Houston’s Finest
host the Marlins for a 12:05pm start. KBME 790 will have the game but on a delayed basis.
Thursday: Tourney Time continues for area high school baseball teams, with Clear Brook, Clear
Springs, Friendswood and Galveston Ball each taking part in the Alvin Varsity Tournament.
Dickinson and Santa Fe will be among the teams participating in the Barbers Hill Tournament,
while Clear Creek is among a quality field of teams at the Crosby Tournament. Meanwhile, Clear
Falls is at the Brenham Tournament, Hitchcock travels to the East Chambers Tournament and
Texas City hits Highway 6 to take part in the Fort Bend ISD Tourney.
The boys’ soccer schedule will have Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Lake at Clear Falls and Alvin
taking on Clear Springs at Challenger-Columbia Stadium. Each match starts at 7:30pm.
The girls’ soccer slate has Clear Springs at Alvin, Clear Falls at Clear Lake and Clear Brook at
Dickinson, with each match beginning at 7:30pm.
La Marque’s boys’ and girls’ track teams will be involved in the Atasocita Relays.
The Astros return the favor from Wednesday and will visit the Marlins in spring training play.
KBME 790 will have the game when it starts at 12:05pm.
Friday: A busy evening of softball begins with Danbury at Hitchcock at 6:00pm, followed by
Dickinson at Clear Falls, Clear Brook at Clear Springs, Tomball YMCA at La Marque, Friendswood
at Santa Fe and Baytown Lee at Texas City, with each starting at 6:30pm. Alvin at Clear Creek
will start at 6:45pm.
La Marque, the lone area baseball team not involved in tournament play, will be at Ganado for
a 6:00pm start.
In boys’ soccer, Friendswood at Crosby and Baytown Lee at Galveston Ball will start at 7:30pm.
The girls’ soccer slate has Mayde Creek at Clear Creek starting at 7:00pm, followed by
Galveston Ball at Baytown Lee, Crosby at Friendswood and Santa Fe at Texas City starting at
7:30pm.
Clear Creek will be the host school for the Ruben Jordan Relays, which will include the girls’
team of Clear Brook along with the teams of Clear Falls, Clear Springs, Galveston Ball, Santa Fe
and Texas City. Clear Brook’s boys’ team and Friendswood’s boys’ and girls’ squads will be at
the Bayshore Relays in La Porte.
For the third time this week, the Astros will play a split-squad game, this time against the
visiting Cardinals. The game will have a later start as it will begin at 5:05pm. KBME 790 will have
the game live.
Concluding a six-game stretch against Eastern Conference teams, the Rockets will host the
76ers in an ESPN-televised matchup starting at 7:00pm. Philadelphia blew out Houston in a
121-93 decision on January 21. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will also have coverage beginning
with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Saturday: Santa Fe meets Texas City in a boys’ soccer match at BBVA Compass Stadium in
Houston beginning at 6:30pm. See the accompanying story below.
