RECENT HAPPENINGS IN HOUSE DISTRICT 23
4th of July Celebrations

My team and I had a wonderful time celebrating the 243rd anniversary of American independence with our neighbors. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out for the parades, celebrations, and parties honoring this great day. The Spirit of ‘76 is truly alive and well in HD-23!
Legislative Updates in House District 23
I joined with my fellow Representative Greg Bonnen and State Senator Larry Taylor to give an update on the last legislative session to the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce. If you are a member of a group
that would like me to come and give a legislative update, please reply to this email and my team will work to put something together!
Texas A&M Cadets Set Sail
Recently, the local cadets of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy left for the
2019 Summer Sea Term. The cadets’ voyage will take them to Puerto Rico,
the Panama Canal, Honolulu, Seattle and the San Francisco Bay. We are
proud to have these bright young leaders as members of our community!
Remembering a Local Hero
This week marks the 10-year anniversary of the passing of Deputy Sheriff
Shane Detwiler who was killed in the line of duty on July 13th, 2009.
Deputy Detwiler had served with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office
for only two months. He had previously served as a game warden with
the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and as a special agent with
the U.S. Army Military Intelligence while deployed to Iraq where he was
awarded the Bronze Star. This session, I authored and passed House Bill 2809, which renames a portion of State Highway 99 in Chambers County in honor of Deputy Detwiler. On September 29th, the Texas Department of Transportation will be conducting a sign dedication ceremony to unveil the new memorial highway designation signs honoring Deputy Detwiler.
I hope that you can join us. For more information go
