FAITH IS MORE THAN A FEELING: PART III

The Conclusion Text: Matthew 19:26 … Do your feeling control you? Intro: Don’t go by your feeling, but go by the word of God! Question: What do you go by? Your thinking, education, or what someone else has told you? The answer should be neither. Instead, it should be activating the measure of faith God has given you! Romans 12:3 reads, “Because of the privilege and authority[a] God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.” Faith looks beyond the circumstances. If we look at the storm, we will see the rain, but if we look at our situation, we will not see what God can do. If we look at our circumstances, we will not see beyond the trials and tribulations. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) Faith is the confidence of things hoped for, the essence of what has yet to be revealed, the evidence of things not seen, the proof that we have only by believing and the indication of God’s truths and promises revealed by His Word. Let me remind you of the words of 1 Corinthians 2:9: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” “For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7) Faith is rooted and grounded in Jesus. Faith that understands and believes in the Word of God. It moves beyond circumstances and situations that may make us feel. Faith is believing God is able when we can’t figure out how to pay our bills or when the enemy seeks to drag us down. Faith is when trouble seems more than we can bear or when it feels like everyone and everything is against us. Faith is when the storms come, when the mountain needs to be moved or when feelings cloud our view of God. Faith is also knowing that God can bring healing and wholeness to our life. When you pray, what worries and troubles did you bring with you? Do you have a thousand cares and enemies on every side? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Are you fearful? Are you angry and confused? God knows our hurts and our weakness better than we do. Knowing that, why don’t we ask God to change us, change our ways and focus, and transform our feelings into faith? What do we need God to do what we cannot do? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” If we feel isolated from God, be honest with Him and rely on His unchanging nature. Rely on God’s promises, not your feelings. Remember: Jesus Christ died for us. Does God feel far away from you? If so, draw near to Him in prayer no matter how you feel! Have faith in Jesus Christ in your difficult times, for He is our bread when we are hungry, our comforter when we’re lonely, our peace when we’re feeling tense and our joy when we’re feeling sad. He is our strength when we’re weak, our Living Water when our soul is thirsty, our wisdom when we are confused and our protection when we are endangered. Jesus Christ is our endless supply when we are empty. Have faith to look to God and believe that He is going to do what His word says he’s going to do. Trust Him to heal you and make you whole.
