All across the United States, regular citizens feel the need to learn more about how their local Police Department functions and how they can show their support for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line each day to keep their cities safe. Most of them end up taking a comprehensive class that can run anywhere from 8 to 14 weeks or longer,
to see inside the world of Protect and Serve. They experience a ride along with an on-duty officer. They meet and learn about SWAT, Canine, Bomb Squad, Patrol and more. They learn about the drug situation and how it is being combatted and they will probably enter the firing range and experience firing a handgun and a semi-automatic weapon. In essence, they
are able to see a little more closely into a world that most of us could never accurately imagine. Once the course is completed, these individuals
become Alumni and will commit to serving as a conduit between the officers and the community. You will see them at parades, working the booths at events that the officers put together to help underprivileged
children have much needed supplies for school or to ensure that struggling families have a Christmas tree with gifts underneath. You will see them at Town Hall meetings and supporting non-profit events and other
community related happenings. They become an extension of the department, Supporting Those Who Serve. Last year the Texas City
CPAAA, began an annual fundraiser called Blue Streak. This is their main fundraiser for the year, and it is an opportunity for local businesses and individuals to show their appreciation for the work the Texas City Police Department does. It is held at the Bay Area Raceway in Dickinson and for 2 hours on a Saturday morning, these men and women are able to relax
and enjoy some friendly competition among the departments and interact with sponsors and locals who come out to cheer them on. It is such a great way to show support for our police department and a tremendous way to meet the people behind the badges. This year, Blue Streak is being held on October 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to come
cheer on the teams. Anyone wanting to sponsor a team should contact Cpl. Tim Herd , Communications coordinator at the Texas City Police Department at: (409) 229-7771 Cell: (409) 996-8477
